Abbotsbury Swannery is one of Dorset’s main tourist attractions, which is situated close to the popular sea side destination Weymouth. The sanctuary has free parking however an entrance fee is applicable.  In fact it was Weymouth where I was based whilst  movie locating in and around the surrounding areas of the beautiful Dorset coast. If you visit Weymouth try the Mackerel bap (cob) which is one of Weymouth’s local delicacies.

The Benedictine Monks were the founders of the swan sanctuary,  it is said that it is the only place in the world where you are able to walk through  the colony of nesting Mute Swans. The swans are all free flying, this is a sanctuary not a zoo, and there are no cages to be found here. Filming for the Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows took place within the reeds approximately 700 meters West of Abbotsbury Swannery. It has been said that no main actors were involved in the filming of this “FrontLot  Movie Location”, all the scenes with the main actors were shot in the studio.

Mentmore Towers

Address: Mentmore Towersews3
Leighton Buzzard

Over 14 years of movie locating and this is the first time that I have been escorted of the grounds! A little naive of me, I parked at the Mentmore Golf and Country Club (Private), then headed through the woods to the grand exterior of the Mentnore Towers. Having seen wild deer and hearing what I can only imagine to be the bark of a large dog, I got to this magnificent piece of architecture and took a picture. A security guard then appeared and said that I was “tracked and recorded as soon as I entered the grounds please leave (Now)”! Without question I went back through the wooded path back to the golf course, then realised that the car park has a security barrier too, which fortunately was open.

The Orgy that Tom attended at  Somerton, Long Island was actually the FrontLot Movie Location exterior of Mentmore Towers. Mentmore Towers is situated in the village of Mentmore, the exterior was also a FrontLot Movie Location for: Batman Begins, The Mommy Returns, Brazil and Johnny English.

Newman Arms

pt2The Newman Arm
23 Rathbone Street
Fitzrovia,  London W1T 1NG
T: 020 7636 112
T: Tottenham Court Rd Northern and Circle Line

The Newman Arms Peeping Tom location: The first murder: Newman Passage, alongside Newman Arms
23 Rathbone Street and was built in 1730. This building has had many functions since that year from housing a tallow chandler, an ironmonger, a picture framers and finally became a brothel. In 1860, the tavern was established and, for the first 100 years, it only possessed a beer licence which explains perfectly the impressive reputation the Newman Arms has for great beer, still firmly intact to this day.

The pub has always attracted interesting and colourful characters who enjoyed drinking in the area. George Orwell and

Dylan Thomas among other literary masters were regular visitors to the Newman Arms. Here, they pondered over pints and soaked up the authentic pub atmosphere. The pub has also appeared in many films and television productions such as: Peeping Tom, Minder, The Bill, Alas Smith and Jones and the Ali G show.

Doug the Heads Local Public House

lstsb6Doug the heads Local Public House,
Ye Old Mitre Tavern
Tube Location:
Farringdon, Circle Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City Lines

As you stroll down down Hatton Gardens to seek this front lot movie location, you may miss this hidden alley way and the shop numbers can get confusing in parts of Hatton Gardens,  so I’ve

taken the liberty to save you time and show you the alleyway! Ye Old Mitre Tavern is situated 10 metres down on the left hand side. In the film Doug is on the phone, whilst director Guy Ritchie can be seen in a cameo role relaxing with a newspaper and a  pint of beer, pretty much like what you would see any local do at lunchtime in this hidden gem of a public house.
