The views epitomise what is Paris. The Eiffel Tower is set perfectly on the landscape, in fact you can see why Montmartre in the past has drawn great artists such as Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh, Manet and Renior. In my opinion the best way for you to spend the evening is in and around the Montmartre and make your way up to the Basilique Du Sacré Cœur to see the sunset over one of my favourite cities in Europe.

The start of Amelie, director Jean-Pierre Jeunet shot the most wonderful introduction, whereby a point of view of a bluebottle in flight along the Rue Saint Vincent paints the picture of this charming romantic fantasy. Also in Montmartre Amelie sets Nico up with a hunt using arrows that direct Nico up the steps towards the Sacré Cœur and finally reunite him with his lost suitcase.

Abbesses Metro Station

Abbesses Metro
75018 Paris, France
The Abbesses is a not too shabby metro line, but what I would call the gateway to Montmartre. The Art Nouveau entrance takes your breath away, but if you take 10 minutes out of your schedule to take up the challenge of the 200 step spiral staircase, that will take your breath even more as your imagination is filled with murals.

Amélie’s mother was situated in the wrong place at the wrong time, as a tourist leaps from the tower of Cathédrale Notre-Dame.

Au Marché de la Butte Market

Amélie buys here three hazelnuts and artichokes from Au Marché de la Buttees, but dislikes the grocery store owner who is constantly hounding his employee. Ali, the owner of the Au Marche de la Butte, has left the sign above the entrance which was created for the film (Maison Colignon, Fondee 1956).

Café des Deux Moulins

Les 2 Moulinsa3
15 rue Lepic
75018 Paris
Montmartre, 18ème

The wonderful art deco style café is a gem and just a short walk from the Moulin Rouge, which is situated on the Boulevard de Clichy and metres from the metro Blanche. Les 2 Moulins showcases all that is Amelie. The film is well documented even the paper mats housed pictures from the film, but the tobacco kiosk was set up for the film. However all is not lost!  The Cafe is a great way to spend an early evening indulging in a Creme Brulee just before walking through the streets of Montmartre and heading up to the Sacré Cœur.
